Who is Nigel Shipp?
Experience Built on Both Sides of the Bank
For more than 30 years, Nigel Shipp has combined a career in fitness, performance and nutrition coaching with a lifelong passion for competitive match angling — giving him a unique understanding of what anglers need to perform at their best, both physically and mentally.
Nigel is a Senior Personal Trainer, Performance Coach and Nutrition Coach with decades of experience helping people improve their strength, movement, fitness and overall performance. Alongside that, he has spent more than 30 years competing as a match angler, experiencing first-hand the physical and mental demands of modern competitive fishing.
That combination of professional coaching and real-world angling experience is what led to Angling Performance.
Nigel saw that anglers naturally spend huge amounts of time thinking about bait, rigs, tackle and tactics, yet far less attention is given to the person actually doing the fishing.
Strength, posture, hydration, nutrition, endurance, concentration and recovery can all influence how an angler performs over the course of a match.
He regularly heard anglers say they could no longer fish a long pole all day, that their back was limiting them or that they simply ran out of energy halfway through a session.
Rather than accepting those problems as part of getting older or simply part of angling, Nigel recognised that many could be improved with the right preparation and coaching.
Through Angling Performance, Nigel brings together performance coaching, nutrition and his understanding of competitive fishing to help anglers become better prepared for the demands of the sport.
The aim is to improve strength and posture, maintain energy and concentration throughout a match, reduce fatigue and support better recovery between sessions.
Nigel is also Performance and Nutrition Coach to two-time FishOMania Champion and Maver Match This Champion Andy Bennett, and continues to work with anglers across different levels of the sport.
Angling Performance isn’t about turning anglers into professional athletes. It’s about helping them move better, feel stronger, perform more consistently and continue enjoying their fishing for years to come.
Improve the angler, and you improve the performance.
